1. General Statement of Policy
NACRE HAIR AND BEAUTY LTD is committed to preventing accidents and cases of work-related ill health and providing adequate control of health and safety risks arising from our work activities. We will provide a safe and healthy environment for all employees, clients, visitors, and contractors in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and all relevant regulations.
2. Responsibilities
Overall Responsibility: The Director, Shalu George, has overall responsibility for health and safety within the salon.
All Employees: All employees have a duty to co-operate with this policy, including:
Working safely and efficiently.
Using the protective equipment provided.
Reporting any faults, defects, or potential hazards to management.
Adhering to all salon procedures and rules.
3. Key Safety Procedures
Risk Assessments: We will conduct and regularly review risk assessments to identify hazards and implement necessary control measures.
COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health): All hazardous substances (e.g., hair dyes, cleaning products, peroxides) are stored, handled, and used in accordance with COSHH regulations. Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all relevant products are available on-site.
Patch Testing: A mandatory 48-hour patch test is required for all clients before any service involving hair colour, lash/brow tinting, or chemical adhesives. (See separate Patch Test Policy).
Equipment: All electrical equipment will be regularly maintained and PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) tested annually. All tools and equipment will be cleaned, disinfected, and/or sterilised between each client.
Hygiene & Sanitation: The salon maintains the highest standards of hygiene. Workstations, tools, and common areas are cleaned and sanitised regularly throughout the day. Single-use items are disposed of safely after each client.
Slips, Trips, and Falls: All walkways will be kept clear of obstruction. Spillages will be cleaned immediately.
Fire Safety: Fire extinguishers and smoke alarms are installed and regularly checked. All employees are trained on the emergency fire evacuation procedure, and the assembly point is clearly communicated.
First Aid: A fully stocked first-aid kit is available and accessible to all staff. A designated appointed person for first aid is present during opening hours.
Reporting: All accidents, incidents, and near misses, however minor, must be reported immediately to management and recorded in the accident book.
This policy will be reviewed annually, or sooner if there are any significant changes in our business or in legislation.
